The Dollhouse Asylum - Review

The Dollhouse Asylum by Mary Gray

Blurb
A virus that had once been contained has returned, and soon no place will be left untouched by its destruction. But when Cheyenne wakes up in Elysian Fields--a subdivision cut off from the world and its monster-creating virus--she is thrilled to have a chance at survival.

At first, Elysian Fields, with its beautiful houses and manicured lawns, is perfect. Teo Richardson, the older man who stole Cheyenne's heart, built it so they could be together. But when Teo tells Cheyenne there are tests that she and seven other couples must pass to be worthy of salvation, Cheyenne begins to question the perfection of his world.

The people they were before are gone. Cheyenne is now "Persephone," and each couple has been re-named to reflect the most tragic romances ever told. Everyone is fighting to pass the test, to remain in Elysian Fields. Teo dresses them up, tells them when to move and how to act, and in order to pass the test, they must play along.

If they play it right, then they'll be safe.

But if they play it wrong, they'll die.

My Review
Cheyenne wakes up in a sub division that has been separated from the rest of the world. She is told that that the killer virus is back and she is safe here. She is joined by her young teacher Teo who has set this place up and seven other couples. She is glad she has the chance to live again but that soon turns to fear. She along with the rest of the people are given new identities and told by Teo they have to past some test to stay there. They have to become the couples Teo has assigned them and act the part. Things aren't always what they seem and Cheyenne now Persephone must fight to survive and hide what she is really feeling.

First I want to say I love the cover of this book and bad to say it is what made me want to read this book. After reading the blurb I thought ok this sounds great. For me the book wasn't as good as I had hoped. I liked it but it isn't a favorite to me. Cheyenne is a character I just couldn't grow to like. She at times seemed catty and snotty. I felt she didn't ask enough questions about her situation. Teo well I have my ideas about him but I will say I hated him. He seemed like a jerk from the first and truly evil. The plot of the book is a great one. A chance of being safe. couples from the past it is great. It just didn't reach that wonderful wow spot for me while reading the book. It is good and I know other people will love it. There is plenty of amazing scenes featuring things Teo comes up with to text these couples. If you like stories with a twist this may be the book for you.
