Curse of the Phoenix Blog Tour : Review & Giveaway

Hi everyone! I have a stop on the Curse of the Phoenix blog tour today. There is a review of the book and a giveaway for you all.

Book Title: Curse of the Phoenix Bundle
Author: Rachel Firasek

Book One: The Last Rising
After paying two millennia’s penance to Osiris, world-weary Phoenix Ice has had enough. Saving souls without any hope for her own redemption isn’t how she imagined spending eternity. Fed up, she decides her next death will be her last. But when she sacrifices her own life for a sexy Texan in a catastrophic plane crash, she has no idea the consequences will be so great…or that she’ll end up back in his life for her next assignment.

Now that Turner Alcott has survived the worst, finding a wife and mother for his son matters more than ever before. When the mysterious Ice comes into his life, Turner knows she’s the one—but love is the last thing Ice wants. If he wants to win her heart, Turner must teach Ice how to forgive herself, and prove that love is the ultimate sacrifice.

My Review
Ice has had enough of being a Phoenix. She has saved many souls but never has healed her old wounds. She decides the last person she saves will be her last. She saves a Texan and something about this man touched her. Turner is raising his son on his own and is healing from a plane crash. He wants Ice as soon as he sees her and she makes him see he needs his son more than work. Just when they get close something may tear them apart. Ice will have to learn to let go of her past.

Ice is a good name for this phoenix as she seems to be all ice. She tries her best to stay away from Turner and his son. She is drawn to them and want to do anything to show Turner he should be with his son more. She is afraid to get close to the child but when she has to it really begins to break her shell. Turner is a great guy who just works to hard. Ice heats him up like no one has in a while. There is the love in this book but it has danger as well. The first scene pulls you in and you never want to stop reading this book. I loved getting to know more about Ice and watching her let go.

Book Two: The Last Awakening
For three hundred years, Arabella’s life has been one meaningless death after another. In a cruel twist of fate, Osiris gifts the phoenix her mortality and long-gone voodoo magic with a warning that she must save her next soul within a week without using magic, or she’ll lose her power forever.

Ex-soldier Greyson Meadows desperately wants to be freed from the nightmares and guilt that haunt him. Confronted by a waif of a woman who forces him to face the truth about his past, he runs fast and hard, fighting the need to prove himself worthy despite his perceived failures.

When Ari becomes the target of her own magical blunder, the weak will find strength and the strong will fall. One will have to give up everything so the other can have peace, but will love’s magic withstand the loss?

My Review
Ari is a phoenix who did something horrible a long time ago. She unleashed something she couldn't control and now she is paying for it. She has saved many souls but it hasn't helped her any. Now when she is ready to give up she gets the chance to be a mortal again. She just has to save Greyson.  Greyson is haunted by his past and memories of being a survivor. Ari gets him to start to care about life again and have hopes. Ari just has to learn to control her magic and not kill anyone. They have another danger they have to face and Ari will have to be in control if they are to have a chance.

Ari to me at times seemed like a young girl. She is scared of herself and doesn't know what to do. She is afraid of her power. She knows she cares about Greyson and doesn't want anything to harm him. Greyson is used to drinking his problems away. He hides his pain behind the bottle. Ari brings him to life and gets him to want to quit drinking. She is very special he just doesn't know how much she is. Ari seemed to have tons of power but was never taught to use it. She has a deep emotional tie to her power and if she gets out of hand it could kill innocent people. A ghost from her past isn't ready to let her go and live a normal life either. As you can see there is action in this book along with the romance. I really enjoyed this story.

Book Three: The Last Beginning
Though she’s always hated being a phoenix, Sadie has to admit immortality has its advantages. She’s seen and done more in the last 150 years than she’d ever dreamed of, but she can’t get past the fact that Osiris has done nothing but manipulate her and her fellow phoenixes.

Or that, when her last incarnation as a phoenix comes to a fiery end, the fire slowly begins to consume her body.

Sun god Osiris is ashamed of his role as ruler of the Underworld, but he unless he can figure out how to save Sadie, that’s exactly where she’s going to end up. Permanently. Terrified he’s going to lose her, he takes her on a hunt for The Book of the Dead, which is the only way he knows he can save her—even if it means she’ll hate him forever.

My Review
Sadie hates her life. She spends her time saving people as a phoenix and has had to sea her friends become mortal and have a real life. She likes the fact she has lived a long life but she s ready to move on. The only problem is Osiris the god who turned her into a phoenix. He doesn't want to let her go and did something a long time ago he is afraid to admit.  He is afraid to let her goal as it would mean saying goodbye to the woman he loves. He will do anything to save her and keep her with him. Sadie isn't afraid to let go she only hopes she doesn't end up in hell.

Osiris is a very powerful god and you really get to see all sides of him in this book. He is the god behind the phoenix and has his reasons for choosing each one. He picked Sadie because she caught his eye and caused him to care. Sadie feels ashamed of what she had to do to survive when she was alive. She doesn't feel worty and doesn't believe Osiris can really love her. She isn't afraid of danger or dying. She is very proud. I love the journey to all the places these two go to and all their adventures. It has lots of love and a great paranormal plot.

Overall
I enjoyed all three stories as they all had great characters and a great plot. I love what these Phoenix have to do. The author does a great job on all three stories and I connected with all the characters. This is a nice new take on paranormal books. If you love paranormal books give this set a try.

Goodreads

Author Bio: Rachel Firasek spends her days daydreaming of stories and her nights putting the ideas to ink. She has spent a dull life following the rules, meeting deadlines, and toeing the line, but in her made up worlds, she can let the wild side loose. Her wonderful husband and three children support her love of the written word and only ask for the occasional American Idol or Swamp People quality hour. She has a philosophy about love. It must devastate or it isn’t truly worth loving. She hopes that you all find your devastating love and cling to it with all your heart. After all, romance on the edge is better!
